Each month, the Teaching Academy, DoIT-Academic Technology, and the Community of Educational Technology Support (ComETS) presents a live online session to disseminate, share, and demonstrate pedagogical practices and strategies. Each session features an instructor-led presentation on the pedagogical strategies they have employed in an actual course, and a talk about the technology involved in the strategy by a campus learning technology consultant. In April, we plan to bring Carl Berger to Madison to speak about the Millennial Student and the Millennial Instructor. Carl Berger is Professor and Dean Emeritus at the University of Michigan. and Director of Advanced Academic Technologies in the Collaboratory for Advanced Research and Academic Technologies (CARAT) in the Provost's Office.
He is the National Research Fellow for the Apple Digital Campus program with Apple Computer Inc. In 2006 he was honored being named as an NMC (New Media Consortium) Fellow.

Presentation Free and Open Source Software for Science Education
Supporting faculty in the sciences, ~free and open source tools (not all open source is free of license costs - especially for enhanced versions) that apply to teaching and learning, such as open source versions of statistical tools ( R ), Mathematica (Octave), biomolecular modeling (PyMOL), solving crystal structures (xfit), Blender (3D modeling) how and where do we find these tools, what are the costs and the benefits of these packages, and how we support these tools in common computer labs.
